In this article, we will explain you more about how you can close a credit note using three methods.

There are three ways by which you can close a credit note:
- Apply to Invoice
- Create Credit Note and Apply Credits from Invoice
- Refund

Apply to Invoice #
Credits that belong to a customer can be applied to an invoice that you’ve raised for the same customer. When applied, it will reduce the invoice amount accordingly.
Apply credits from Credit Note #
To apply credits to an invoice:
- From side menu bar tap on Folders -> 📂 Credit Note.
- Tap on a Credit Note.
- Tap on ✏️ Edit to Edit/Open the Credit Note.
- Tap on Applied Credits.
- A list of invoices that you’ve created for that customer is displayed.
- Specify the amount to be applied for the invoices and hit the Save button.
- The invoice amount and the available credit will be reduced accordingly.
- If all the credits are used up, the status of the note will be changed to Closed.
- If some (partially) credits are used up, the status of the note will be changed to P. Used (Partially Used).
Apply credits from Invoice #
You can apply credits by opening the corresponding invoice and tapping on Available Credits yellow button or by tapping on Applied Credits button below Payments button.
- A list of Credit Notes that you’ve created for that customer is displayed.
- Specify the amount (Credits) to be applied to Invoice and hit the Save button.
- The Invoice balance due and the available credit will be reduced accordingly.
- If all the credits are used up, the status of the note will be changed to Closed.
- If some (partially) credits are used up, the status of the note will be changed to P. Used (Partially Used).
Create Credit Note and Apply Credits from Invoice #
You can also create a credit note directly from an invoice in the name of the customer you want to issue those credits for.
- Go to the invoice of the customer for whom you want to issue credits.
- Tap on [icon name=”ellipsis-v” class=”” unprefixed_class=””] option located at top right corner.
- Tap on Create Credit Note and Apply Credits
- Tap on Yes
- This will create a new credit note. This credit note will directly get applied on the invoice from which you have created this credit note.
- This will reduce the due amount of invoice and will change its payment status to fully paid.
- You can also perform this from All folders or invoice available in side bar.
- Just tap on the invoice of the customer for whom you want to issue credits.
- Tap on Create Credit Note and Apply Credits.
Refund #
- If you’ve refunded the amount you owed your customer by cash, you can record this against the corresponding credit note created. To do this:
- From side menu bar tap on Folders -> 📂 Credit Note.
- Tap on ✏️ Edit to Edit/Open the respective credit note.
- Tap on Refund button.
- Choose the date, enter the amount to be refunded, choose a type (Mode of Payment), comments and hit the Save button.
- You can also do refund using Mark as Closed option. For more information on Mark as Closed click here.
Web and Mac #
